Highlights & Route

This is our gentlest Andaman holiday, planned for families travelling with children and grandparents together. You fly into Port Blair (officially renamed Sri Vijaya Puram in 2024), and from there everything moves at a comfortable pace: one historic site, one boat ride and one beach at a time, with afternoons left free so that nobody is rushed. Three of the four nights are in Port Blair, which keeps packing and unpacking to a minimum, and the one night on Havelock Island gives you a full evening and morning by the sea.

The first two days are about the islands’ past and their small, pretty satellites. At Cellular Jail you walk through the wings where freedom fighters were held, and in the evening the light and sound show tells the story in Hindi (and in English on selected days). The next day a short boat trip takes you to Ross Island, now named Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep, where the old British administrative buildings have been overtaken by roots and deer, and on to North Bay for its coral viewing and optional water sports.

Day three moves you by ferry to Havelock (Swaraj Dweep), about two hours across calm water. The highlight of the island is Radhanagar Beach, a long curve of white sand with shallow, clear water that is ideal for children, and you see it at its best before the afternoon crowd arrives. The return ferry brings you back to Port Blair for a final night, so the flight home on day five is never at the mercy of sea conditions.

Good to know before you book

Indian citizens need no permit for Port Blair, Havelock or Neil; only a government photo ID is required for ferries and hotels. Foreign nationals receive a Restricted Area Permit on arrival at the airport.
The best months are October to May. The sea is roughest and ferries are most often cancelled from June to September.
Cellular Jail is open from 9 am to 5 pm. The light and sound show runs daily in Hindi at 5.50 pm and in English at 6.50 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; show tickets are included in this package.
Inter-island ferries are private catamarans with reserved seating. Timings are fixed by the operators and can change with the weather, so our team re-confirms your tickets a day ahead.
Water sports at North Bay (glass-bottom boat, sea walk, jet ski) and snorkelling are optional and paid on the spot.
Flights to Port Blair from Delhi usually connect through Kolkata or Chennai; book them only after we confirm your hotel and ferry dates.

Day 1 :

Arrive Port Blair, Cellular Jail and evening show

Our representative receives you at Veer Savarkar International Airport at your arrival point (airport, railway station or hotel) at the agreed time and takes you to the hotel. Rest after the flight and have lunch at your own pace.

In the late afternoon we drive to Cellular Jail, the prison built by the British between 1896 and 1906 where many freedom fighters, including Veer Savarkar, were held. Walk through the surviving wings and the central tower, then take your seats for the light and sound show, which tells the story of the jail with the old peepal tree as narrator. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 2 :

Ross Island and North Bay by boat

After breakfast we take you to the jetty near Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex for a shared boat to Ross Island (now Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep). The island was the British headquarters for the Andamans before the 1941 earthquake, and the church, bakery and officers' quarters are now wrapped in banyan roots, with spotted deer and peacocks wandering freely. A short light and sound show and a small museum are also here.

The boat continues to North Bay Island, known for its coral reef. Children enjoy the glass-bottom boat ride; the sea walk and other water sports are available at extra cost. Return to Port Blair by afternoon. Evening free for Aberdeen Bazaar or Corbyn's Cove beach, a short drive from town. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 3 :

Ferry to Havelock Island

An early breakfast, then transfer to Haddo or Phoenix Bay jetty for the morning catamaran ferry to Havelock (Swaraj Dweep). The crossing takes roughly two hours; seats are air-conditioned and reserved. Please keep a photo ID handy, as it is checked at boarding.

On arrival a vehicle takes you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free. Families usually spend it at the beach nearest the hotel or at Kalapathar Beach on the east coast, which is lovely in the late afternoon light. The small market near the jetty has cafes and souvenir shops. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 4 :

Radhanagar Beach, return ferry to Port Blair

After breakfast, drive across the island to Radhanagar Beach (Beach No. 7), about 12 km from the jetty. The water here is shallow for a long way out and there are lifeguards, so it is one of the safest beaches in the islands for children. Spend the morning swimming or simply sitting under the trees that line the sand. Changing rooms and a few small eateries are available near the car park.

Check out and return to the jetty for the afternoon ferry to Port Blair. Check in to the hotel for the last night; the evening is free for shopping at Sagarika emporium or the local market. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 5 :

Departure

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Depending on your flight time there may be an hour for a last walk along the Marina Park seafront. Transfer to the airport at your departure point (airport, railway station or hotel) and the tour ends with a family full of stories.

How do we reach Port Blair from Dehradun or Delhi?

Fly from Delhi; most flights connect through Kolkata or Chennai and take six to eight hours in total, with some non-stop options. There is no rail or road link. Book your flights only after we confirm the tour dates, and plan to land by early afternoon on Day 1 so you can see the evening show.

Do Indians need a permit for the Andamans?

No. Indian citizens can visit Port Blair, Havelock and Neil Island freely with a photo ID. Some tribal reserve areas and Nicobar need permits, but none of those is on this tour. Foreign nationals get a Restricted Area Permit stamped at Port Blair airport on arrival.

Is this trip suitable for elderly parents and small children?

Yes, that is exactly who it is designed for. Days start after breakfast, there is only one hotel change, and the ferries are air-conditioned with proper seats. The only thing to watch is the sun; we plan beach visits for the cooler hours.

Which is the best time to visit?

October to May, with December to February the most pleasant. The monsoon from June to September brings rain, rough seas and frequent ferry cancellations, so we do not recommend it for a family holiday.

Will we get vegetarian food?

Yes. Breakfast and dinner at the hotels are vegetarian, and Port Blair has several pure-vegetarian restaurants for lunch. On Havelock the choice is smaller but every hotel and most cafes serve vegetarian dishes; tell us about Jain or other requirements in advance.

Can we add snorkelling or scuba diving?

Yes. Snorkelling at North Bay or Elephant Beach and introductory scuba sessions on Havelock can be booked locally; they are paid directly to the operator. Children usually need to be at least 10 for scuba. Let us know in advance so we can keep time for it on Day 3 or 4.

Will the Cellular Jail light and sound show be in Hindi or English on our day?

The Hindi show runs every day at about 5:50 pm. The English show runs at about 6:50 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only. We visit Cellular Jail on Day 1, late in the afternoon, and stay for the evening show. Tickets are included in the package. If your family prefers English and Day 1 is not one of those days, tell us. Where the plan allows, we move the show to Day 2 evening in Port Blair.
