Highlights & Route
This is the Kailash Mansarovar yatra for people who cannot spare more than five days or who should not trek: senior parents, those with knee or heart concerns, and working families with limited leave. You travel from Lucknow to the Nepal border by road, fly to Simikot, take a helicopter to Hilsa and cross into Tibet at Purang. From Purang you make a single long day visit to the lake and to Yam Dwar for darshan of Kailash, and return the same way.
There is no parikrama. What you do get is the lake circuit by vehicle, the puja and holy dip at Mansarovar where permitted, the Rakshas Tal viewpoint and a close view of the north face of Kailash from Yam Dwar. Three nights at Purang, including a full rest day, make the altitude manageable for most healthy adults.
Compared with our VIP programme, this yatra uses the scheduled Simikot flights and shared helicopter batches rather than a private charter, which keeps the price lower but means a little more waiting. A yatra manager travels with you from Lucknow and a Tibetan guide joins at the border; meals are pure vegetarian throughout.
Route
Lucknow → Nepalgunj → Simikot → Hilsa → Purang (Taklakot) → Rakshas Tal → Lake Mansarovar → Yam Dwar → Purang → Hilsa → Simikot → Nepalgunj → Lucknow
Good to know before you book
- No trekking, but Purang is about 3,900 m and the lake about 4,590 m; the rest day on Day 3 is compulsory and the medical certificate is required.
- Simikot flights and Hilsa helicopters depend on clear weather. Keep one or two spare days at home and do not book a fixed onward journey from Lucknow on Day 5.
- Passport valid six months beyond return, given to us about a month ahead for the Chinese group visa; the group enters and exits together.
- Following the June 2026 MEA advisory, no one leaves Lucknow with us until Chinese visa and permits are issued.
- Price is per person on sharing basis; GST and TCS are added at billing.
- 2027 dates and the Nepal-route quota will be confirmed when you enquire; the quota filled fast in 2026.
Darshan, puja and timing notes
The darshan day is Day 4, and it starts before dawn from Purang so that you reach Mansarovar in the clear morning light. Our pandit performs the Mansarovar puja on the shore, with havan where conditions allow; you collect lake water to carry home. The day ends at Yam Dwar, the traditional starting gate of the parikrama, for darshan of Kailash’s face from the closest point of this yatra.
- Holy dip: bathing in Mansarovar has been allowed at some points and restricted at others in recent seasons, depending on Chinese local rules. Where a dip is not allowed, families pour lake water over the head on the shore.
- Rakshas Tal: seen from a viewpoint on the way; by tradition it is not used for puja.
- Kailash view: on a clear day the mountain is visible from the lake shore as well as from Yam Dwar. Clouds can hide it for hours, so we keep flexible time on the darshan day.
- Puja items: bring a small copper or steel vessel for water, a few diyas and your family’s names and gotra for the sankalp.
Seasons and dates: the Kailash season runs roughly from late May to September, depending on Chinese permits. Saga Dawa, the Vaisakha full moon (Buddha Purnima, in May), and the Shravan full moon draw large numbers. The 2027 dates and the Nepal-route quota are not yet announced. In 2026 the yatra resumed in June, and on 27 June 2026 the MEA advised pilgrims not to start without Chinese visas and permits in hand, after private groups were stranded in Nepal. We follow that advice strictly.
Is this yatra right for you?
Choose this five-day yatra if you want to stand at Mansarovar and see Kailash in Tibet but cannot walk the parikrama or spare two weeks. There is no trek, but the altitude is real: three nights at about 3,900 m and a long darshan day to the lake at about 4,590 m. Healthy senior citizens can usually manage with the rest day; a medical certificate is compulsory. People with uncontrolled heart, lung or blood-pressure conditions should choose aerial darshan.
It is not the yatra for those who want the full parikrama over Dolma La, or for anyone who cannot keep spare days for weather. Read our Kailash Mansarovar yatra guide and the Hindi page कैलाश मानसरोवर यात्रा. To be informed when 2027 dates open, use the enquiry form on this page or call/WhatsApp us (numbers on our Contact page).
