Ramayana circuit yatra at a glance
A Ramayana circuit yatra follows the life of Shri Ram through the places linked with him: Ayodhya, his birthplace, with the new Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir; Nandigram, where Bharat ruled with Ram's paduka; and Sitamarhi in Bihar, where Sita Mata appeared from the earth. Our Ramayana yatras take 3 to 6 days, start from Ayodhya or Patna, and involve no trekking, only temple queues and short walks. October to March is the best season. Our Dehradun team arranges hotels, vehicle, satvik meals and guidance on free darshan passes.
Which Ramayana circuit yatra is right for you?
If your heart is set on Ram Lalla darshan, the two-night Ayodhya yatra is enough. The five-day Ayodhya Nandigram yatra adds Bharat Kund, a slower pace for elders, and a final day in Lucknow for flights home. For Sita Mata's land of Mithila, choose the Bihar Ramayana yatra. The table lists every yatra in this category.
| Yatra | Duration | Starts from | Best for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ayodhya Ram Mandir Darshan: A Journey to the Treta Yuga | 3 days / 2 nights | Ayodhya | Ram Lalla darshan, short on time | On request |
| Ayodhya Nandigram Yatra | 5 days / 4 nights | Ayodhya | Unhurried Ayodhya, Bharat Kund, elders | From ₹30,000 per person |
| Bihar Ramayana Yatra | 6 days / 5 nights | Patna | Sita Mata's Mithila, Punaura Dham | On request |
The wider Ramayana trail continues beyond these three. Our Kashi and Ayodhya yatras combine Ayodhya with Prayagraj and Varanasi; Rameswaram Dham Yatra covers the Ramanathaswamy Jyotirlinga, where Shri Ram worshipped Shiva; and our Sri Lanka Ramayana Yatra (11 Days) reaches Seetha Amman and the Lanka sites.

How does Ram Mandir darshan work in Ayodhya?
Ram Lalla darshan is free and open to everyone. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has listed darshan from about 7 am to 9 pm with a break around noon, and aartis at about 4 am (Mangal), 6 am (Shringar) and 10 pm (Shayan). Timings change with the season, so always check the time printed on your pass.
- Passes are free. Sugam Darshan and aarti passes are issued only on the trust's portal, online.srjbtkshetra.org. Nobody can sell you a "VIP pass".
- Book early. In October 2026 the trust raised online Sugam Darshan passes to 2,000 a day and announced a longer booking window, being rolled out in stages.
- Travel light. Phones, smartwatches, bags, belts and food are not allowed inside. Leave them at the hotel and carry only your ID and printed pass.
- Allow time. On a weekday with a pass, expect one to two hours including security; on weekends and festivals, much longer.
Also plan for Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhavan and the evening Saryu aarti at Ram Ki Paidi. Our Ayodhya Ram Mandir darshan guide has full details and the latest changes.
Sitamarhi, Punaura Dham and Mithila
North Bihar is the land of Sita Mata. At Punaura Dham near Sitamarhi, a large Janaki temple complex is being built: the foundation was laid on 8 August 2025 for a project spread over about 50 acres, at an estimated cost of ₹883 crore. Darshan continues at the existing temple and kund while work goes on. Nearby stand the Janaki Mandir in Sitamarhi town, Haleshwar Sthan and Panth Pakar, and Ahilya Sthan near Darbhanga.
Hotels in Darbhanga and Sitamarhi are clean but simple, and rural roads are slow, so our Bihar Ramayana Yatra keeps daily drives short. The main festivals are Vivah Panchami in Margashirsha (late November or December) and Sita Navami (April or May), both with large melas.
When is the best time for a Ramayana yatra?
October to March is comfortable across Ayodhya and Bihar. December and January mornings can be cold and foggy. April to June is very hot, and in July to September parts of north Bihar flood.
The biggest crowds come on Ram Navami (15 April 2027 by the panchang), Deepotsav in Diwali week, Kartik Purnima, Vivah Panchami and the 22 January anniversary of the pran pratishtha. These are moving days to be in Ayodhya, but queues can take several hours. With elders, we suggest the days just before or after.
How to reach Ayodhya and Sitamarhi
- Ayodhya: Maharishi Valmiki International Airport and Ayodhya Dham Junction railway station are both a short drive from the temple area. Lucknow is about 135 km away, roughly three hours by road.
- Nandigram: about 15 km from Ayodhya on the Sultanpur road.
- Bihar: Patna airport and Patna Junction are the usual arrival points. Darbhanga also has an airport, useful if you reverse the route.
- From Dehradun: fly via Delhi or Lucknow, or tell us your city and we will suggest the best connection.
What we arrange on a Ramayana yatra
We arrange hotels close to the temples, a private vehicle with pickup and drop, vegetarian breakfast and dinner as listed in each package, help with free Ram Mandir passes, and a local guide who knows the stories behind each site. Our Dehradun team stays on call throughout.
Frequently asked questions
How many days do I need for Ayodhya?
Two nights is enough for Ram Lalla darshan, Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhavan, the Saryu aarti and the smaller shrines of Ayodhya. Add one or two days for Nandigram and an unhurried pace with elders. If you also want Prayagraj and Kashi, plan five to seven days in total.
Is there a fee for Ram Mandir darshan or aarti passes?
No. Darshan is free, and Sugam Darshan and aarti passes are also free. They are issued only on the trust's official portal, online.srjbtkshetra.org. If anyone asks for money for a "VIP pass", you are not dealing with the trust. We guide you through booking but never charge for passes.
Can senior citizens do the Ramayana circuit comfortably?
Yes. There is no trekking on these yatras. The main effort is standing in queues and walking within temple complexes. At Ram Mandir, ask us about the current arrangements for elders and wheelchair users before you travel, as the trust revises them from time to time.
What can I carry into Ram Mandir?
Very little. Mobile phones, smartwatches, cameras, bags, belts, power banks and food are not allowed inside. Free lockers are available outside, but depositing and collecting can take time on busy days. It is easiest to leave everything at the hotel and carry only your photo ID and printed pass.
Where did Sita Mata appear, Sitamarhi or Janakpur?
Tradition places Sita Mata's appearance at Punaura Dham near Sitamarhi in Bihar, where Raja Janak was ploughing the field. Janakpur in Nepal was Raja Janak's capital and is where the Ram–Sita vivah is celebrated. Both are sacred, and they lie close to each other on either side of the India–Nepal border.
Can the Ramayana circuit include Sri Lanka?
Yes. We run Sri Lanka Ramayana yatras covering Munneswaram, Seetha Amman, Divurumpola and other sites. Indian passport holders can get a free 30-day tourist ETA under Sri Lanka's current scheme, applied online before travel. See our international yatras for details.
