Quick answer: The Char Dham kapat opening dates for 2027 have not been announced yet. By tradition, Kedarnath’s date is announced on Mahashivratri (6 March 2027), Badrinath’s on Basant Panchami (11 February 2027), and Gangotri and Yamunotri open around Akshaya Tritiya (about 9 May 2027). The year’s other big fixed event is the Haridwar Kumbh, confirmed for 14 January to 20 April 2027.
Updated for the 2027 yatra season (facts checked October 2026)
This calendar puts the 2027 yatra year on one page: kapat (temple door) openings and closings in the Himalaya, the Haridwar Kumbh snan days, the big festivals at Kashi, Ayodhya, Ujjain and Haridwar, and the annual yatras that are announced by government each spring. We mark every item clearly as one of three kinds, because they are not equally certain:
- Confirmed (official): announced by a government body or temple committee, with the source listed below.
- Panchang date: a festival whose date comes from the Hindu calendar (IST). These are fixed by astronomy, but regional calendars can differ by a day.
- Traditionally announced on …: dates not yet decided, which the temple or government normally announces on a known day.
We will update this page as each announcement is made. If you are planning around any date here, check with us or the official source before booking travel.
When will the Char Dham kapat open in 2027?
None of the four Uttarakhand Char Dham temples has announced its 2027 opening date. This is normal: the dates are fixed by priests and temple committees only a few months ahead, on traditional days.
| Dham | How the 2027 opening date is decided | 2026 opening, for reference | 2026 closing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yamunotri | Traditionally opens on Akshaya Tritiya (about 9 May 2027); time announced in spring | 19 April 2026 | 11 November 2026 (Bhai Dooj), as announced |
| Gangotri | Traditionally opens on Akshaya Tritiya; muhurat announced in spring | 19 April 2026 | 10 November 2026 (Govardhan Puja), as announced |
| Kedarnath | Traditionally announced on Mahashivratri (6 March 2027) at Omkareshwar temple, Ukhimath | 22 April 2026 | 11 November 2026 (Bhai Dooj), 8:30 am, as announced |
| Badrinath | Traditionally announced on Basant Panchami (11 February 2027) at the Narendranagar royal palace, Tehri | 23 April 2026 | 16 November 2026, 9:37 pm, as announced |
Because Akshaya Tritiya falls in May in 2027, about three weeks later than in 2026, the 2027 Char Dham season is likely to start later than 2026. That is our reading of the calendar, not an announcement. For a full season plan, see Best Time for Char Dham Yatra.

Haridwar Kumbh 2027: the confirmed snan days
The Haridwar Kumbh runs from 14 January to 20 April 2027. The dates were finalised with the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad and announced by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in November 2025, and the mela officer listed the bathing days again in April 2026. Of the ten snan days, the three Amrit snans are 6 March, 8 March and 14 April 2027. For planning, stay and crowd advice, read our Haridwar Kumbh 2027 guide.
Which yatras are announced each spring?
Several of the big Himalayan yatras are decided year by year by government bodies. None of these has been announced for 2027 yet.
- Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (government route): organised by the Ministry of External Affairs. In 2026 the announcement came around 1 May, with batches from June to August. See Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2027 routes.
- Amarnath Yatra: announced by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, usually in spring. In 2026 it ran from 3 July to 28 August.
- Char Dham registration: the Uttarakhand government opens online registration a few weeks before the kapat open. Plan to register as soon as it opens.
- Adi Kailash and Om Parvat: the season depends on road conditions and inner-line permits from Dharchula; it usually runs from late spring to autumn with a monsoon pause in heavy-rain weeks.
How to use this calendar to plan your yatra
- Decide your yatra first, then the month. Char Dham is May to June or September to October; Kashi, Ayodhya and Ujjain are best October to March; Gaya is any time, with Pitru Paksha the peak.
- Avoid clashes if you are travelling with elders. Kumbh Amrit snans, Shravan Mondays, Mahashivratri and Ram Navami bring the biggest crowds.
- Hold flexible bookings for Char Dham until the kapat dates are announced in February and March.
- Keep monsoon in mind. July and August bring landslide risk on Himalayan roads; build buffer days.
- Book temple slots on official portals only, such as Kashi Vishwanath Sugam Darshan, Mahakal Bhasma Aarti and Ram Mandir passes.

Frequently asked questions
When will Kedarnath open in 2027?
The 2027 opening date has not been announced. By tradition it is declared on Mahashivratri, which falls on 6 March 2027, at the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath, after the priests consult the panchang. In 2026 Kedarnath opened on 22 April and closes on Bhai Dooj, 11 November 2026, as announced.
When will Badrinath open in 2027?
The 2027 date is not yet announced. It is traditionally fixed on Basant Panchami, which is 11 February 2027, at the Narendranagar palace of the former Tehri royal family. In 2026 Badrinath opened on 23 April, and its winter closing was announced for 16 November 2026 at 9:37 pm.
When do Gangotri and Yamunotri open in 2027?
Gangotri and Yamunotri traditionally open on Akshaya Tritiya, which falls around 9 May 2027 by IST calendars. The exact muhurat is announced by the temple committees in spring. In 2026 both opened on 19 April, which also marked the start of the 2026 Char Dham Yatra.
What are the Haridwar Kumbh 2027 dates?
The Haridwar Kumbh runs from 14 January to 20 April 2027, with ten snan days announced by the Uttarakhand government and the mela administration. The three Amrit snans are on 6 March (Mahashivratri), 8 March (Phalgun Amavasya) and 14 April (Mesh Sankranti) 2027.
When is Pitru Paksha in 2027?
By the panchang for New Delhi, Pitru Paksha 2027 runs from 15 September (Purnima shraddh) to 29 September (Sarva Pitru Amavasya); some calendars begin on 16 September. The Bihar government had not yet announced its 2027 Pitru Paksha Mela dates for Gaya when this page was checked.
When is Dev Deepawali in 2027?
Dev Deepawali in Varanasi falls on Kartik Purnima, 13 November 2027, according to the panchang calculated for Varanasi. The ghats are lit with lakhs of diyas that evening, and boats and riverside rooms are booked months ahead, so plan early if you want to be on the river.
Has the 2027 Kailash Mansarovar Yatra been announced?
Not yet. The government-route yatra is announced by the Ministry of External Affairs each year. In 2026 the announcement came around 1 May, with batches between June and August. Watch for the 2027 notice in spring, and read our guide to the routes before you apply.
Why are some dates on this calendar marked as panchang dates?
Festivals such as Holi, Janmashtami and Diwali are fixed by the Hindu lunar calendar, so their dates are known years ahead, but regional calendars can differ by a day. Temple openings, melas and government yatras are different: they are announced by an authority, so we mark them confirmed only once that announcement is made.
