Highlights & Route
The road yatra to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat takes eight days from Kathgodam, most of it on narrow border roads above Dharchula. This helicopter version cuts the travel to four days without losing what matters: two nights in the Vyas valley at Gunji, darshan of Adi Kailash above Jolingkong and a close view of the Om Parvat face from Nabidhang. It starts and ends at Pithoragarh, the district headquarters, which has a helipad and a district hospital where the compulsory medical screening is done.
Day one is for arrival, the medical check and a briefing. On day two the helicopter follows the Kali valley north, giving aerial darshan of the Adi Kailash massif on the way, and lands at Gunji or Napalchu, where you stay in a local homestay or guest house. Day three is the Om Parvat flight: a short hop to Nabidhang, time at the viewpoint, and the return to Gunji. On day four you fly back to Pithoragarh. Ground movement is minimal, mostly between helipads and your rooms, so there is no long driving.
Gunji sits at about 3,200 m and Nabidhang higher still, so this is not an effortless trip even by air. The body gets one afternoon and night to adjust before the Nabidhang sortie, and our team carries oxygen and a basic medical kit at the high-altitude base. Stays are simple village homestays with shared facilities and limited electricity, which is part of the character of this valley. For yatris who are fit enough for altitude but not for a week of hill roads, this is the most practical way to do the darshan.

Good to know before you book
- Open to Indian citizens only. Every yatri needs an Inner Line Permit for the Vyas valley; we file it for you, but the documents listed below must reach us about a month before travel.
- The medical check at Pithoragarh district hospital is compulsory and is done on Day 1. Anyone who does not pass cannot fly into the valley.
- In 2026 the Adi Kailash season ran from 1 May to November with a pause in July and August for the monsoon. Helicopter dates within the season are set by the operator and the tourism department.
- Homestays at Gunji and Napalchu are basic: shared rooms, simple vegetarian food, intermittent power and little or no phone signal. BSNL is the only network with any coverage.
- Carry cash. There are no ATMs or card machines above Dharchula.
- Weight and baggage on the helicopter are limited; pack warm clothes, medicines and essentials in one small bag.
Darshan, puja and timing notes
On this helicopter yatra the timetable is set by daylight and weather rather than temple hours. Morning flights are the most reliable, and Om Parvat’s snow pattern is sharpest in the low sun of early morning, so expect early reporting at the helipad on Days 2, 3 and 4. Afternoons in the Vyas valley are often windy and cloudy, and flights after midday are rare.
- Puja at Om Parvat: Nabidhang has no temple or priest. Families usually do a short puja facing the mountain with their own samagri: a diya in a cup, agarbatti, roli, rice and a little prasad. Chant together; it is a moving moment.
- Adi Kailash from the air: the massif appears on the flight into the valley. Ask at boarding which side of the cabin faces it.
- Kali river source: the Kali temple at Kalapani, near the river’s source, and the Vyas Gufa can be visited by road from Gunji only if the operator’s schedule leaves a gap.
- Season: the 2026 season was reported to open in early May with a monsoon pause in July–August, and helicopter dates were released in blocks. The 2027 schedule has not been announced; we will publish it here once the state and the operator do.
Is this yatra right for you?
Choose this plan if you are fit for altitude but cannot spend a week on hill roads, or if you have limited leave. You must be within the permit age range (recently about 10 to 70), pass the Pithoragarh hospital check, and accept very simple homestays at Gunji. A month of daily walking beforehand makes the first night at 3,200 m much easier.
It is not right for anyone advised against altitude; our Aerial Darshan flies over the valley without landing and returns the same day. If Parvati Kund and the Jolingkong temple are part of your sankalp, choose a programme with a Jolingkong landing or the road yatra. Our Om Parvat darshan guide and Adi Kailash permit guide explain the route and paperwork; the Hindi Adi Kailash page is handy for parents.

Getting there and nearby tirthas
Most yatris reach Pithoragarh by road from Kathgodam (about 190 km) a day early. That spare day can be used for darshan near the town: the Kapileshwar Mahadev cave temple, the Thal Kedar temple on its ridge, or, on the drive in, Patal Bhuvaneshwar’s cave and the Haat Kalika temple at Gangolihat, both revered in Kumaon. Tell us when booking and we will plan the arrival day around them.
