Highlights & Route
Bengal is the heartland of Shakti worship, and this four-day yatra from Kolkata gathers its most important seats of the Goddess into one unhurried circuit. The centrepiece is Kalighat, the Shakti Peeth where the toes of Sati’s right foot are believed to have fallen, in the heart of the old city. Around it we add Dakshineswar, where Sri Ramakrishna served Maa Bhavatarini, Belur Math across the Hooghly, the Ratnavali Shakti Peeth near Khanakul in Hooghly district, and the Bargabhima (Vibhash) Shakti Peeth at Tamluk, where Sati’s left ankle is said to rest.
The second day is given to Gangasagar on Sagar Island, where the Ganga finally meets the Bay of Bengal. The saying goes that other tirthas may be visited many times but Gangasagar only once in a lifetime, such is the effort of reaching it: a drive of around 90 km to Harwood Point (Lot 8), a ferry across the Muriganga to Kachuberia, and a further road journey across the island to the bathing ghat and the Kapil Muni temple. We handle the whole chain of transport so that you only have to carry your bathing clothes.
You stay in one comfortable Kolkata hotel for all three nights, with vegetarian breakfast and dinner and a private air-conditioned vehicle. Our yatra team books your rooms, times the ferry with the tides, and keeps a coordinator on call throughout. This package is designed for families, senior yatris and small groups who want the darshan without the crowds of the January mela.
Route
Kolkata (arrival) → Harwood Point → ferry to Kachuberia → Gangasagar (holy dip, Kapil Muni temple) → Kolkata → Kalighat, Dakshineswar, Belur Math, Ratnavali Shakti Peeth (Hooghly) → Tamluk (Bargabhima Shakti Peeth) → Kolkata (departure)
Good to know before you book
- The Gangasagar ferry across the Muriganga runs only when the tide allows; sailing times change daily, so the Day 2 schedule is confirmed the evening before and may start very early.
- The Gangasagar Mela around Makar Sankranti (mid-January) draws lakhs of pilgrims; this package avoids those dates by default, but we can plan a mela visit with extra time and a higher cost.
- Kalighat is busiest on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Amavasya; weekday mornings are the easiest for darshan with elderly yatris.
- Dakshineswar temple closes in the afternoon between the morning and evening sessions, so we visit it in the morning or late afternoon.
- Ratnavali (about 80 km from Kolkata) and Tamluk (about 87 km) are long half-day excursions on ordinary district roads; Day 3 is therefore a full day.
- October to February is the best season; the ferry crossing and island roads are uncomfortable in the monsoon and very hot in May–June.
Yatra Highlights
- Holy dip at Gangasagar, where the Ganga meets the sea
- Kalighat Shakti Peeth plus Dakshineswar and Belur Math
- Two rarely visited Shakti Peeths: Ratnavali and Bargabhima
