Highlights & Route
The Lhasa route is the grand way to Kailash. You fly from Kathmandu over the Himalaya to Lhasa, the old capital of Tibet, and then travel west for three days across the plateau, past the turquoise Yamdrok lake, the monastery town of Shigatse and the wide valley of the Yarlung Tsangpo, the river we know as the Brahmaputra. By the time you reach Mansarovar your body has had a full week to adjust, which is why many doctors consider this the gentlest route for the parikrama.
The programme includes Pashupatinath darshan in Kathmandu, the complete lake circuit and puja at Mansarovar, and the three-day Kailash parikrama over Dolma La. The return retraces the road to Lhasa and the flight to Kathmandu, with hotel nights at Saga, Shigatse and Lhasa, so there are no long overnight drives.
This is a yatra for those who have the time and want to travel at an unhurried pace. Hotels are used on ten of the thirteen nights; only the lake and the two parikrama nights are in guest houses. A Nepali yatra manager, a Tibetan guide and a cook team travel with the group, and every meal is pure vegetarian.
Route
Kathmandu → Lhasa (flight) → Shigatse → Saga → Lake Mansarovar → Darchen → Yam Dwar → Dirapuk → Dolma La → Zuthulpuk → Darchen → Saga → Shigatse → Lhasa → Kathmandu (flight)
Good to know before you book
- Lhasa sits at about 3,650 m, so the first two Tibet nights are themselves acclimatisation. Even so, expect a mild headache on arrival and plan nothing strenuous.
- The road from Shigatse to Saga and onward to the lake covers several hundred kilometres a day on good tarmac; carry a neck pillow and motion-sickness tablets.
- The group travels on a single Chinese group visa; everyone enters and exits Tibet together, and leaving early requires visa-splitting at your cost.
- Your Indian passport must be valid six months beyond return and reach us about a month before departure. Following the June 2026 MEA advisory, we do not let anyone travel to Kathmandu before visa and permits are issued.
- Dolma La is about 5,630 m. The parikrama is optional; yatris who skip it wait at Darchen at their own cost for the two nights.
- Price is on request because Kathmandu–Lhasa airfares and 2027 Tibet costs are fixed late in the year; we quote as soon as our partners confirm.
