International yatras at a glance
Our international yatras and holidays visit places abroad where Indian dharma lives on: the Ramayana sites of Sri Lanka, the Hindu temples of Bali, Vishnu's Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Ganga Talao in Mauritius, the Murugan shrine at Batu Caves in Malaysia, the Shiva temples of My Son in Vietnam, and the monasteries of Bhutan. Most last 4 to 11 days and start at the destination airport. The best season varies by country. Our Dehradun team plans hotels, guides, vegetarian meals and visa guidance; international flights are usually booked separately.
Which international yatra is right for you?
For a Ramayana-themed yatra, Sri Lanka is the natural choice. For living Hindu temple culture, choose Bali. Angkor in Cambodia suits those who love temple history and architecture. Sri Lanka: the Ramayana trail
Sri Lanka holds many sites that tradition links with the Ramayana. Munneswaram near Chilaw is an ancient Shiva temple where, by local belief, Shri Ram worshipped after the war. Seetha Amman temple near Nuwara Eliya marks the Ashok Vatika where Sita Mata is said to have been held. Divurumpola is linked with her agni pariksha, and Kelaniya with Vibhishana's coronation. Koneswaram at Trincomalee is one of the great Shiva temples of the island.
Our Sri Lanka Ramayana Yatra (11 Days) covers the complete trail at an easy pace, while the eight-day Divine Sri Lanka yatra mixes the main sites with Kandy, the hill train and the beaches. December to March suits the west and the hills; May to September suits Trincomalee. Many families pair this with our Ramayana circuit yatras in India.
Bali and Angkor: Hindu temples of South-East Asia
Bali is the one island in Indonesia where Hindu dharma is the faith of most people. Daily offerings sit at every doorway. Tirta Empul is famous for melukat, a purification bath under spring-fed spouts; Besakih on the slopes of Mount Agung is called the mother temple; Tanah Lot and Uluwatu stand on the sea. Temples ask for a sarong and sash, usually lent or rented at the gate. April to October is the dry season.
Angkor Wat in Cambodia was built in the 12th century as a temple to Vishnu, and its galleries carry carvings of the Samudra Manthan and scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata. At Phnom Kulen, a river flows over a thousand carved Shiva lingams. Our Cambodia Angkor Mandir Yatra includes a three-day Angkor pass; shoulders and knees must be covered at all temples. November to February is the coolest time.
Mauritius, Malaysia, Vietnam and Bhutan
- Mauritius: Ganga Talao, a crater lake that Mauritian Hindus hold as sacred, draws huge crowds at Maha Shivaratri. Aapravasi Ghat in Port Louis remembers the indentured labourers who came from India. May to November is the pleasant, drier season.
- Malaysia: Batu Caves near Kuala Lumpur, with its giant golden Murugan statue and 272 steps, is the heart of Thaipusam. Shorts are not allowed in the Temple Cave.
- Vietnam: the My Son sanctuary holds the ruins of Champa-era Hindu temples to Shiva. Vegetarian food is well understood; ask for "an chay".
- Bhutan: a Buddhist kingdom of dzongs and monasteries. The hike to Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) climbs about 900 m over four to five hours, with ponies to the halfway point. October to December and March to May are best.
What we arrange abroad
We arrange hotels, private transfers and sightseeing with local guides, vegetarian and Jain meal guidance, temple entry tickets where included, and help filling in visa, ETA and arrival forms. International flights are usually not part of the package price, so you can use your own airline points; we suggest timings that fit the first and last days. Our Dehradun team stays on WhatsApp throughout your journey.
Frequently asked questions
Which country is best for a Ramayana yatra abroad?
Sri Lanka. It has the largest number of sites linked with the Ramayana, including Munneswaram, Seetha Amman, Divurumpola and Kelaniya, and Indian passport holders can currently get a free 30-day tourist ETA. Our 8-day and 11-day Sri Lanka yatras cover the main sites; the longer one adds Kataragama and the south.
Which international yatra needs no visa for Indians?
Bhutan and Mauritius need no visa for Indian tourists. Malaysia is visa-free until 31 December 2026, and Sri Lanka gives a free ETA that you apply for online. Bali, Cambodia and Vietnam need a visa on arrival or e-visa. Rules change, so we re-check for your dates before you book.
Will we get vegetarian food abroad?
Yes, with a little planning. Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Malaysia have many Indian restaurants, and Bali and Vietnam understand vegetarian requests well. We brief hotels and guides in advance and choose restaurants that suit vegetarian and Jain diets. Carry a few dry snacks for long sightseeing days.
Are flights included in your international packages?
Usually not. Most packages start and end at the destination airport, so you can book flights from your own city at the best fare. Some include domestic flights within the country, such as Hanoi to Hue in Vietnam. Each package page lists exactly what is and is not included.
What is the Sustainable Development Fee in Bhutan?
Bhutan charges Indian visitors a Sustainable Development Fee of ₹1,200 per adult per night. Children aged 6 to 12 pay half, and those under 6 pay nothing. Where a package lists the fee as included, it is part of the price. You also need an entry permit, issued online or on arrival at Paro or Phuentsholing.
Can senior citizens go on these international yatras?
Yes. Most involve short walks at temples and comfortable drives. The exceptions are the Tiger's Nest hike in Bhutan, the 272 steps at Batu Caves, and the steep stairway to Angkor Wat's top level. We suggest the right package for elders and keep optional the parts that need climbing.
