Highlights & Route
Bali is the one island in Indonesia where Hindu dharma has been lived continuously for over a thousand years, and for Indian yatris it feels at once familiar and new. The deities are the ones you know, Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma, worshipped as aspects of Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, but the offerings are woven from palm leaf, the gamelan replaces the bell, and every village has three temples of its own. This short programme is built around Ubud, the cultural heart of the island, so that you unpack once and spend your time in temples rather than in traffic.
The first morning takes you to Tirta Empul, a tenth-century spring temple where Balinese Hindus bathe under a row of stone spouts in the melukat purification ritual. Guests may take part, with a sarong and a small offering, when the temple permits. From there it is a short drive to Gunung Kawi, where ten shrines are cut straight into a river cliff, and on later days to Goa Gajah, the eleventh-century Elephant Cave, the royal water temple of Taman Ayun and Pura Besakih, the mother temple of Bali on the slopes of Mount Agung. The final day climbs to cool Bedugul for the lake temple of Ulun Danu Beratan and ends at Tanah Lot, where the shrine stands on a rock in the sea.
We keep the pace unhurried. One temple cluster in the morning, lunch at a local warung with vegetarian choices, and afternoons free in Ubud for the art market, the rice-field walks or simply a rest at the hotel. A private air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver-guide stays with you throughout. Temple etiquette, dress and the meaning of what you see are explained as you go, so that the visit is a darshan and not just local darshan.

Good to know before you book
- Indian passport holders can take Indonesia’s Visa on Arrival (IDR 500,000 per person, about USD 30, 30-day stay, extendable once). It can be bought at Bali airport or applied for in advance as an e-VoA at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
- Every arriving passenger must submit the free All Indonesia arrival card at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id within 72 hours before landing. Bali also charges a one-time tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person (lovebali.baliprov.go.id), which can be paid online before you fly.
- Balinese Hindu temples require a sarong and sash for all visitors; most big temples lend or rent them at the gate. Shoulders should be covered, and by local custom women who are menstruating are asked not to enter temple courtyards.
- Melukat at Tirta Empul is a religious rite, not a swim. Participation depends on the temple’s rules on the day; a change of clothes and a towel are needed, and the water is cold.
- Besakih is at about 1,000 m and Bedugul at about 1,200 m, so carry a light jacket. Bali’s dry season runs roughly April to October; November to March brings short heavy showers, usually in the afternoon.
- International flights to Denpasar are not part of this package. The Indian rupee is not accepted in Bali; carry US dollars or use a card and withdraw Indonesian rupiah from ATMs.
