Highlights & Route
Nageshwar lies on the road between Dwarka and Bet Dwarka, in the flat coastal country of Devbhumi Dwarka district where the Saurashtra peninsula runs out into the Arabian Sea. The Shiva Purana places the Jyotirlinga in the Darukavana forest, and the temple is easy to spot from afar because of the 25 m seated Shiva statue in its courtyard. Since Dwarka itself is one of the Char Dham and Sapta Puri, this short yatra gives you a Jyotirlinga and a Krishna dham in a single trip.
You arrive at Rajkot and drive west for about five hours to Dwarka, where you stay two nights. The full middle day is built around the four places most families come for: morning darshan at Dwarkadhish, the drive to Nageshwar, the crossing to Bet Dwarka, where Krishna is said to have lived, over the new Sudarshan Setu cable bridge, and Rukmini Devi temple on the way back. Gopi Talav and the Gomti ghat fill the gaps.
The pace is relaxed and the roads are good, so the plan works well for elderly parents and young children alike. We arrange the private vehicle, the hotel and pure-vegetarian breakfast and dinner, and our Dehradun team stays available by phone and WhatsApp. Train or air travel to Rajkot is on your own; Jamnagar airport is an alternative pickup point that shortens the drive.
Route
Rajkot airport or railway station → Dwarka (Dwarkadhish evening aarti) → Nageshwar Jyotirlinga → Gopi Talav → Bet Dwarka via Sudarshan Setu → Rukmini Devi temple → Dwarka → Rajkot (or Dwarka railway station)
Good to know before you book
- Dwarkadhish temple is open roughly 6:30 am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 9:30 pm, with mangla aarti at 6:30 am and the flag (dhwaja) changed several times a day; the hoisting is a sight in itself. Timings shift on Janmashtami and other festivals.
- Nageshwar is about 17 km from Dwarka and is normally visited on the way to Bet Dwarka; darshan takes under an hour on a normal day.
- Bet Dwarka is now reached by road across the Sudarshan Setu, a 2.3 km cable-stayed bridge from Okha that opened in 2024. Boats still operate but are no longer necessary.
- Mobile phones and cameras are not allowed inside Dwarkadhish; lockers are available near the gate.
- Rajkot to Dwarka is about 230 km (5 hours); Jamnagar airport is about 130 km (3 hours). Dwarka also has a railway station with direct trains from Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
- Best months are October to March. Summer is very hot and humid; Janmashtami (August or September) brings huge crowds to Dwarka.
