Quick answer: The Haridwar Kumbh (Ardh Kumbh) of 2027 is scheduled from 14 January to 20 April 2027. Ten main snan dates have been announced. The three Amrit Snans, when the akharas bathe in procession, are on 6 March (Mahashivratri), 8 March (Somvati Phalgun Amavasya) and 14 April (Mesh Sankranti). The dates were fixed with the Akhara Parishad in November 2025 and repeated by the mela administration in April 2026.
Updated for the 2027 yatra season (facts checked October 2026).
Haridwar is our home ground. We are based in Dehradun, an hour from Har Ki Pauri, and many of the families we serve will want a Kumbh snan in 2027. This guide sets out exactly what has been confirmed, what is still to come, and how to plan a safe, unhurried snan with seniors and children.
Please note that the final official notification of the mela period and any change in snan dates rests with the Uttarakhand government and the mela administration. We will update this page if anything changes.
Is it Kumbh or Ardh Kumbh in 2027?
Strictly, 2027 is an Ardh Kumbh at Haridwar, coming six years after the Purna Kumbh of 2021. The Uttarakhand government has, however, said it will hold the 2027 mela with the scale and grandeur of a full Kumbh, and official statements and news reports use both “Kumbh 2027” and “Ardh Kumbh 2027”. The akharas, whose processional baths were earlier called Shahi Snans and are now called Amrit Snans, have agreed the snan calendar with the state, so the 2027 mela will have akhara Amrit Snans like a full Kumbh.
For a yatri, the name makes little difference: it is a Kumbh snan at Brahma Kund, Har Ki Pauri, with the akharas, saints and crores of devotees present.

Status of these dates: They were finalised at a meeting of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami with the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad and the 13 akharas in Haridwar on 28 November 2025, and the mela officer repeated the same ten dates, naming 6 March, 8 March and 14 April as Amrit Snans, on 14 April 2026. Some media reports have described Chaitra Purnima (20 April) as a fourth Amrit Snan; the mela administration’s April 2026 statement listed three. Check the final government notification before fixing travel for 20 April.
What is an Amrit Snan, and should you go that day?
On Amrit Snan days the akharas of sadhus, including the Naga sanyasis, go in procession to bathe at Har Ki Pauri in a fixed order and at fixed times. It is a deeply moving sight, and many devotees believe the Ganga is especially sanctified after the saints have bathed.
But Amrit Snan days are also the most crowded days of the entire mela. Expect:
- Brahma Kund and nearby ghats reserved for the akharas during their bathing window, with the public sent to other ghats.
- Vehicles stopped at outer parking areas from the previous night, and walks of several kilometres on fixed one-way routes.
- Hotels in and around Haridwar fully booked and priced at their highest.
- Very long waits to leave the city after the snan.
Our advice for families with seniors and children: choose a weekday that is not a main snan day, or one of the earlier snan parvs in January or February, and bathe early in the morning. The Ganga at Haridwar is the same Ganga on every day of the mela.
How to plan your Kumbh snan: step by step
- Fix your date first. Decide whether you want an Amrit Snan, another snan parv, or a quieter day. Then work out your arrival the day before and a buffer day after.
- Book stay early. Haridwar, Kankhal and Rishikesh hotels will fill months in advance around snan dates. The government has announced tent cities for the mela; details and booking channels should be announced closer to the time. Dehradun and Rishikesh are good bases, with an early start on snan day.
- Plan transport. Haridwar Junction is on the main rail network, and special trains are usually announced for big snan days. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant (Dehradun), about 35–40 km away. Delhi is about 220 km by road. On peak days, private vehicles will be held at parking areas outside the city, with shuttles and walking from there.
- Choose your ghat. Har Ki Pauri (Brahma Kund) is the most sacred, but on peak days it is reserved or heavily controlled. Other ghats along the Ganga in the mela area are equally valid for snan.
- Prepare the family. Carry photo ID for everyone, write a phone number on a card in each child’s and senior’s pocket, agree a fixed meeting point, and keep medicines and water with you. Use the official lost-and-found centres if someone is separated.
- Follow official advisories. Crowd, traffic and route plans are announced by Uttarakhand Police and the mela administration. Follow them even when they mean a longer walk.
Weather during the 2027 mela
| Period | Weather | What to carry |
|---|---|---|
| January | Cold mornings and nights; fog can delay trains | Warm layers, shawl, towel and dry change for after snan |
| February | Cool, pleasant days; cold early mornings | Light woollens |
| March | Pleasant to warm | Cotton clothes, cap, light shawl for mornings |
| April | Warm to hot afternoons | Water, sun protection, ORS |
The Ganga is cold in every month of the mela, especially in January and February. Seniors with heart or blood-pressure conditions should take a short, careful dip or do snan with a lota on the ghat steps.
What is being prepared for 2027?
Reports through 2026 describe the main works the state has set out to complete before the mela:
- Rebuilding and improving ghats, including Har Ki Pauri, with better bathing facilities.
- A safety audit of every bridge in the mela area, and two new bridges reported over the Sukhi river and the Mayapur escape channel.
- A second command and control centre for the mela, CCTV, drones and water police.
- Tent cities, temporary hospitals, ambulances and mobile medical teams; sanitation and drinking water plans.
- Separate plans for parking, traffic and crowd control, with October 2026 set as the target for completing preparations.
Visitor rules such as any registration, pass system or route plan for 2027 had not been published as of October 2026. We will add them here once they are.
Rituals and darshan during the Kumbh
- Snan at Brahma Kund: the central act; take a dip, offer Ganga jal to the Sun, and give daan as per your means.
- Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri: held every evening; very crowded during the mela, so take your place early. Read our guide on Har Ki Pauri Ganga Aarti timings and where to sit.
- Pind daan, tarpan and asthi visarjan: many families combine the Kumbh with rites for ancestors at Kushavarta and Narayani Shila. Book a known pandit in advance.
- Akhara darshan and satsang: the akhara camps and pandals of saints hold katha and pravachan throughout the mela.
- Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi: the ropeways will be very busy; go early or on a non-snan day.
Combining the Kumbh with Char Dham 2027
The mela ends on 20 April 2027, and the Char Dham usually open in late April or early May. Families who want both can plan a Kumbh snan in mid-April and continue into the Char Dham yatra once the kapat opening dates are announced. Kedarnath’s opening date is traditionally announced on Mahashivratri, which in 2027 is also the first Amrit Snan. Read our Char Dham registration guide before you plan the combined yatra.
What we arrange
From our Dehradun base we arrange Kumbh snan visits around the dates you choose: stay in Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun, local transport within official route plans, an early-morning escort to the ghat, and pandits for puja, pind daan or asthi visarjan. Our Haridwar Rishikesh Yatra and the Delhi–Haridwar Pind Daan Yatra (listed from ₹25,000) can be built around a snan date, and the Char Dham Yatra from Haridwar can follow it. Families who cannot travel can still offer a Ganga Aarti sankalp at Har Ki Pauri online. Stay will be the scarcest thing in 2027, so use the enquiry form on this page or call/WhatsApp us (numbers on our Contact page) early.
Frequently asked questions
When is Haridwar Kumbh 2027?
The Haridwar Kumbh (Ardh Kumbh) is scheduled from 14 January 2027, Makar Sankranti, to 20 April 2027, Chaitra Purnima. These dates were agreed by the Chief Minister with the Akhara Parishad in November 2025 and repeated by the mela administration in April 2026. The final government notification of the mela period may add detail, so check it before booking.
What are the Amrit Snan dates in Haridwar Kumbh 2027?
According to the mela administration’s statement of April 2026, the three Amrit Snans are on 6 March 2027 (Mahashivratri), 8 March 2027 (Somvati Phalgun Amavasya) and 14 April 2027 (Mesh Sankranti). Some reports also listed 20 April (Chaitra Purnima) as an Amrit Snan. On these days the akharas bathe in procession at Har Ki Pauri.
Is 2027 a Kumbh or an Ardh Kumbh in Haridwar?
It is an Ardh Kumbh, six years after the 2021 Purna Kumbh in Haridwar. The Uttarakhand government has said it will be held on the scale of a full Kumbh, and both names are used in official statements and the media. The akharas will also hold Amrit Snans in procession on the main days.
Which is the best day for senior citizens to take Kumbh snan?
Avoid the three Amrit Snan days if mobility or health is a concern, since roads close and walks are long. A weekday that is not a snan parv, or an early snan parv such as Vasant Panchami, is easier. Bathe early, use a ghat with railings and chains, and keep a family member beside the senior throughout.
How do I reach Haridwar during the Kumbh?
By train to Haridwar Junction, where special trains are usually announced for snan days; by air to Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun, about 35–40 km away; or by road from Delhi, about 220 km. On peak days private vehicles will be stopped at outer parking areas, so be ready to use shuttles and walk the last few kilometres.
Where should I stay for Haridwar Kumbh 2027?
Haridwar and Kankhal are closest to the ghats but will fill first and cost most on snan dates. Rishikesh and Dehradun are practical alternatives with an early start. The government has announced tent cities for the mela; booking details are expected closer to the time. Book early and confirm cancellation terms in writing.
Do I need registration or a pass for Kumbh snan?
As of October 2026, no registration or pass system for ordinary devotees had been announced for Haridwar 2027. The mela administration may introduce route plans, parking passes or app-based information before January. Check Uttarakhand government and police announcements close to your date, and carry photo ID for every member of the family.
[…] The Haridwar Kumbh of 2027 is scheduled from 14 January to 20 April 2027, with Amrit Snans on 6 March, 8 March and 14 April. The Char Dham opening dates for 2027 are not announced yet. Badrinath’s date is declared on Basant Panchami (11 February) and Kedarnath’s on Mahashivratri (6 March); Gangotri and Yamunotri open around Akshaya Tritiya, expected in early May 2027. So in most years the yatra begins after the Kumbh ends, but if you plan a combined Kumbh snan and Char Dham, expect heavy crowds and traffic controls in Haridwar until 20 April.
