About this puja

Every evening at sunset the lamps are raised to the Ganga at Har Ki Pauri, and the sound of the bells carries across Brahmakund. Families sponsor a Ganga puja and sankalp here to mark a birthday or anniversary, to pray for a parent’s health, to give thanks after a recovery, or to remember someone dear by floating a deep-daan in their name. This online service is for those who cannot come to Haridwar on the day that matters to them.

Har Ki Pauri is the ghat where the Ganga leaves the mountains and enters the plains, and Brahmakund is the spot where, by tradition, drops of amrit fell during the Samudra Manthan; it is the heart of the Kumbh at Haridwar. The daily Ganga aarti here was started in 1916 at the initiative of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya and is organised by Shri Ganga Sabha, which also looks after the ghat.

How our online service works: our Haridwar tirth purohit takes the sankalp in your names and gotra, performs a Ganga puja with the full samagri at the ghat in the afternoon or early evening, floats deep-daan for your family as the aarti begins, and shares a live link or video. Ganga jal from Brahmakund and the puja prasad are then couriered to your address.

Who performs it

The sankalp and Ganga puja are performed by Haridwar tirth purohits we have worked with for years. We are a yatra company in Dehradun, not Shri Ganga Sabha, and we do not claim official status. The main aarti itself is performed by the Ganga Sabha’s own priests for everyone present; our puja is a sankalp in your name alongside it, not a private aarti.

Good to know before you book

  • The evening aarti at Brahmakund is performed daily around sunset by Shri Ganga Sabha, so its timing shifts with the season: later in summer, earlier in winter. We tell you the approximate time for your date.
  • The Ganga canal through Har Ki Pauri is closed every year from around Dussehra until Diwali for cleaning and repairs (in 2026 the closure runs until 8 November). Water at the ghat is low in that window; the aarti continues, but if you want the full flow for your puja, choose a date outside it.
  • The aarti is a public event with large crowds, especially on weekends, Purnima, Somvati Amavasya, Ganga Dussehra and Kartik Purnima; the live link is shot from where our priest stands, not from a reserved spot.
  • No plastic goes into the river; deep-daan is done with leaf-and-flower lamps only.
  • Prasad and Ganga jal courier within India is included; abroad at extra cost and subject to that country’s import rules on liquids.
  • Please send names and gotra in writing in advance.
