Highlights & Route
Srisailam is rare among Indian tirthas: a Jyotirlinga and a Shakti Peeth stand within the same temple compound on a hill above the Krishna river. Mallikarjuna Swamy is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and Bhramaramba Devi, a few steps away, is counted among the eighteen Maha Shakti Peeths. Adi Shankaracharya composed the Shivananda Lahari here, and for South Indian families it is one of the most important Shiva pilgrimages.
The temple sits deep inside the Nallamala forest, and the drive from Hyderabad through the tiger reserve is part of the experience. We keep two nights at Srisailam so that you arrive, rest, and take darshan when the queues are lighter, and then have a full second day for the other places on the hill: Sakshi Ganapathi, who is believed to keep count of every pilgrim, the Patalaganga ghat on the Krishna reached by ropeway, the dam viewpoint, and, when boats are running, the Akkamahadevi caves.
The itinerary suits families and elderly yatris. Drives are kept to one long stretch each way, we help arrange Sparsha Darshan tickets from the Devasthanam where available, and our Dehradun team is on call and WhatsApp throughout. Travel to and from Hyderabad is your own; from the airport or railway station onwards the vehicle, hotel and meals are ours to look after.
Route
Hyderabad airport or railway station → Nallamala forest road → Srisailam (Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba temples) → Sakshi Ganapathi, Patalaganga, dam viewpoint, Akkamahadevi caves (optional) → Hyderabad
Good to know before you book
- The temple is open roughly 4:30 am to 3:30 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm daily, with longer hours on Mahashivratri and during Karthika masam. Timings change on festival days, so we reconfirm before your date.
- General (Sarva) darshan is free. Sparsha Darshan, where you may touch the lingam, is a paid ticket (Rs 500 per person at the time of writing) with its own timings; it is sometimes suspended on heavy days.
- The Hyderabad–Srisailam drive is about 5 to 6 hours. The last stretch is a ghat road through the Nagarjunsagar–Srisailam Tiger Reserve, where night driving is restricted, so we always plan to arrive before dark.
- Patalaganga is reached by a ropeway or a long flight of steps; the ropeway is the easy option for elderly yatris. The boat ride to Akkamahadevi caves depends on reservoir level and forest department permission.
- Mobile phones and cameras are not allowed inside the main temple; lockers are available.
- Best months: October to February. Mahashivratri (Feb/March) and Karthika masam (Nov) draw lakhs of pilgrims and hotels fill up weeks ahead.
