Highlights & Route

Amritsar is one of the few cities in India where a pilgrim of any faith feels at home within an hour of arriving. The Golden Temple, Sri Harmandir Sahib, welcomes everyone to its marble parikrama and its langar hall, which feeds tens of thousands of people a day free of charge. Ten minutes’ walk away is Jallianwala Bagh, and a short drive brings you to the Durgiana temple, built on the pattern of the Golden Temple itself and dedicated to the goddess. This four-day package uses Amritsar as a base for three nights and adds a day in Jalandhar for the Devi Talab Mandir, one of the Shakti Peethas.

The first day is for Sri Harmandir Sahib and Jallianwala Bagh, with an evening return to the temple to see it lit after dark. Day 2 covers Durgiana, Ram Tirath where Valmiki is said to have written the Ramayana, and the Partition Museum or the Maharaja Ranjit Singh panorama, before an afternoon drive to the Attari-Wagah border for the Beating Retreat, the daily flag-lowering ceremony performed by the Border Security Force and the Pakistan Rangers. Day 3 is the Jalandhar excursion: Devi Talab Mandir with the Tripurmalini shrine, and the Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi associated with the sixth Guru.

Breakfast and lunch are included, with vehicle, hotel and a guide for larger groups. Dinner is left open on purpose: Amritsar’s kulcha, lassi and langar are part of the pilgrimage, and most families prefer to eat where they like. The pace is gentle and suits elderly yatris, with marble floors, wheelchair access at the Golden Temple and short drives.
