Highlights & Route
Adi Kailash, also known as Chhota Kailash, rises above Jolingkong in the Vyas valley of Pithoragarh district, near India’s border with Tibet. A little to the east, the snow on the face of Om Parvat settles each year into the shape of the sacred syllable Om, seen from Nabidhang in the Kalapani valley. Reaching these places by road means several days of travel above Dharchula, an Inner Line Permit and nights at 3,200 m. This programme offers the darshan from the air in a single morning.
You arrive in Pithoragarh on the first day. After check-in we take you to the district hospital for the compulsory medical check that applies to every helicopter passenger on this route, followed by an evening briefing about the flight path and the peaks you will see. Early the next morning we transfer you to the Pithoragarh helipad. The helicopter flies up the Kali valley over Dharchula and Gunji, circles the Adi Kailash massif and Parvati Kund, passes along the Om Parvat face and returns to Pithoragarh. The flight does not land in the high valley, so no Inner Line Permit is needed and there is no exposure to altitude on the ground.
Aerial darshan is best suited to elderly yatris, people with limited time and anyone whose health rules out the road yatra. Please understand that these flights run only when the state tourism authorities and the operator schedule them, and only in clear weather. Dates are limited and are announced in blocks, so we ask you to register your interest early and keep a flexible travel plan.
Route
Pithoragarh (hotel and medical check) → Pithoragarh helipad → aerial circuit over Dharchula, Gunji, Jolingkong (Adi Kailash, Parvati Kund) and Nabidhang (Om Parvat) → Pithoragarh
Good to know before you book
- The flight is for Indian citizens; carry original Aadhaar or passport, as a photo ID check is done before boarding.
- A medical fitness check at the district hospital in Pithoragarh is mandatory the day before the flight and is arranged by us.
- Helicopter dates depend on the state tourism department’s schedule and the weather; the 2027 flying calendar will be shown here once released.
- Travel to Pithoragarh is not included. The nearest railhead is Kathgodam, about 190 km away (roughly seven to eight hours by road); we can arrange a car at extra cost.
- Flights are early morning, when the air is clearest. A delay of an hour or two for cloud is normal.
- Weight and baggage are limited by the operator; only a small bag with essentials is carried on the flight.
Darshan, puja and timing notes
Aerial darshan flights leave Pithoragarh in the early morning, usually between first light and about 9 am, because cloud builds over the high valleys by late morning. The day before, we hold a short puja and sankalp at the hotel or a nearby temple so that the flight itself is the darshan. On board, keep your hands free: the circuit over Jolingkong and the Om Parvat face lasts only minutes at each point.
- What you see: the Adi Kailash massif above Jolingkong and Parvati Kund, then the Om Parvat face from the Nabidhang side. The Om pattern is clearest when fresh snow has settled into the rock grooves.
- Seating: the operator seats passengers by weight; window positions are rotated or allotted by the operator, not chosen.
- Prasad and offerings: nothing can be dropped from the aircraft. Families who want to offer at Parvati Kund or the Shiv-Parvati temple at Jolingkong need the road or landing yatra instead.
Seasons to plan around: the clearest windows are usually May–June and late September–October. Monsoon cloud (July–August) and winter snowfall limit flying. The 2027 flying calendar depends on the state tourism department and the operator and has not been announced; we will publish it here once released.
Is this yatra right for you?
Choose aerial darshan if you cannot spend nights at 3,200 m, cannot manage the bumpy 4×4 road beyond Dharchula, or have only two days. It suits senior citizens who pass the medical check and families with grown children. There is no trek and no Inner Line Permit, but the helicopter does climb high, so anyone with heart or lung conditions must consult their doctor first.
It is not for you if you want to stand at Parvati Kund, touch the waters or take darshan at Jolingkong temple. For that, choose a landing or road yatra below, and read our Adi Kailash permit guide. To register interest for the 2027 dates, use the enquiry form on this page or call/WhatsApp us (numbers on our Contact page).
