This is our most complete helicopter programme for Adi Kailash and Om Parvat, and the only one that begins and ends in Delhi. It joins two very different kinds of travel. The first part is a gentle road journey through Kumaon: Kathgodam, Bhimtal, Kainchi Dham, the bell-covered Golu Devta temple and the stone shrines of Jageshwar, ending at Pithoragarh. The second part is by air: a helicopter from Pithoragarh to Gunji, sorties to Jolingkong for Parvati Kund and to Nabidhang for Om Parvat, and the flight back.

Spending two nights in Pithoragarh before flying has a purpose. The district hospital screening required of every helicopter yatri is done without rush, and the body gets a day at 1,600 m before the jump to 3,200 m at Gunji. In the valley you stay three nights in homestays at Gunji. On the Jolingkong day an all-terrain vehicle carries you the last few kilometres from the helipad to Parvati Kund, so there is almost no walking; the same support is arranged at the Nabidhang viewpoint. The return retraces the road through Kumaon to Kathgodam and Delhi.

Nine days sounds long for a helicopter yatra, but the pace is what makes it suitable for senior citizens and first-time Himalayan travellers. Nobody drives more than one long day at a time, and there is a spare afternoon in Pithoragarh before and after the flights to absorb weather delays. Homestays at Gunji are simple and the valley has little phone signal, so it is a true pilgrimage rather than a resort holiday.

Good to know before you book

Indian citizens only. Inner Line Permits for the Vyas valley are included, but we need your medical certificate, affidavit and police verification about a month before departure.
The hospital check at Pithoragarh is compulsory. A yatri who does not clear it cannot fly into the valley; our team will help arrange alternative local darshan in that case.
In 2026 the Adi Kailash season ran from 1 May to November, closed for July and August. Helicopter days inside the season are fixed by the operator and the tourism department, and the 2027 calendar will appear here when released.
Only one small bag per person goes on the helicopter; main luggage stays at the Pithoragarh hotel.
No ATMs, cards or reliable UPI above Dharchula, and only patchy BSNL signal at Gunji.
Delhi to Kathgodam and back is by overnight road coach or train; please tell us which you prefer when booking.

Day 1 :

Delhi to Kathgodam (overnight travel)

Depart Delhi in the evening from your arrival point (airport, railway station or hotel) at the agreed time by overnight coach or train to Kathgodam, the railhead for Kumaon. Carry a light shawl and your documents in hand luggage.

Day 2 :

Kathgodam to Pithoragarh via Kumaon temples

Our vehicle meets you at Kathgodam early in the morning. After breakfast at Bhimtal we stop at Kainchi Dham, the ashram of Neem Karoli Baba, then at Chitai near Almora, where thousands of bells hang at the Golu Devta temple. Jageshwar Dham, a group of ancient stone temples among deodar trees, is the longest halt. The day covers about 190 km of hill road and we reach Pithoragarh by evening.

Day 3 :

Pithoragarh: hospital check and briefing

A relaxed morning, then the compulsory fitness screening at the district hospital, where blood pressure and oxygen levels are recorded. In the evening our coordinator briefs the group on flight timings, the one-bag rule, altitude care and life in the Gunji homestays. Repack your small bag tonight; the main luggage stays at the hotel.

Day 4 :

Helicopter to Gunji

Transfer to the Pithoragarh helipad for weight check and boarding. The flight follows the Kali river north past Dharchula into the Vyas valley and lands at Gunji, about 3,200 m. The rest of the day is for acclimatisation. If you feel comfortable, a slow walk to the Manokamna temple in the neighbouring village of Nabi is a good way to end the afternoon.

Day 5 :

Jolingkong: Parvati Kund and Adi Kailash

A morning sortie up the Kuti valley to Jolingkong, close to 4,500 m. From the helipad an ATV carries you the last few kilometres to Parvati Kund, where the small Shiva temple stands on the shore and Adi Kailash rises directly behind. There is time for darshan and puja by the lake before the ATV and helicopter return you to Gunji for lunch and rest.

Day 6 :

Nabidhang: Om Parvat

Another early flight, this time east to Nabidhang in the Kalapani valley, with ground support at the viewpoint. On a clear morning the Om on the snow face of Om Parvat is unmistakable. After darshan and photographs the helicopter brings you back to Gunji. The afternoon is free to rest or visit the village.

Day 7 :

Helicopter back to Pithoragarh

After breakfast the helicopter returns you down the valley to Pithoragarh, where your main luggage is waiting. The afternoon is free; it also serves as a buffer if the morning flight is delayed.

Pithoragarh to Kathgodam

A scenic descent through the Kumaon hills to Kathgodam, about 190 km, with tea halts on the way. We reach Kathgodam by evening for the overnight coach or train to Delhi.

Why two nights in Pithoragarh before the flight?

The hospital screening must be done the day before flying, and a night at 1,600 m helps your body before the jump to 3,200 m at Gunji. It also gives a cushion if the Delhi to Kathgodam journey or the hill drive runs late.

How much walking is there in the valley?

Very little. An ATV carries you from the Jolingkong helipad to Parvati Kund and support is arranged at the Nabidhang viewpoint. You walk only around the lake and the viewpoint, and in the village at Gunji.

Is the Inner Line Permit included?

Yes. We file the permits for the whole group, which is why we need your medical certificate, affidavit and police verification about a month before departure.

Train or coach from Delhi?

Either works. The overnight train to Kathgodam is more comfortable for seniors; a coach is used when train seats are not available. We confirm the mode with your booking.

What are the homestays at Gunji like?

Family-run village homes with shared rooms, attached or common washrooms, bucket hot water and a few hours of electricity each evening. Food is simple, fresh and vegetarian. Nights are cold throughout the season.

Is there an age limit?

The district administration sets the permit age range each season, roughly 10 to 70 years in recent years. Please confirm with us if anyone in your group is near these limits.

What if a flight is cancelled?

The free afternoons at Gunji and Pithoragarh absorb most delays. If a sortie cannot be flown at all, we try to re-schedule within your dates; refunds for unflown sectors follow the operator’s terms.

Can we join this helicopter yatra at Kathgodam instead of Delhi?

Yes. If you would rather book your own train, or you already live in Kumaon, take our 7-day Adi Kailash helicopter yatra from Kathgodam. It follows the same plan from the Kumaon temple drive onwards: three nights in Pithoragarh hotels, three nights in Gunji homestays, and the Jolingkong and Nabidhang sorties. The only things left out are the two overnight legs between Delhi and Kathgodam and back, so it takes two days less.
