Highlights & Route
This is the quickest and most comfortable way we know to stand on the shore of Mansarovar and see Mount Kailash with your own eyes. Instead of the scheduled small-plane flight to Simikot and a wait for helicopter batches, a chartered helicopter carries your group directly from Nepalgunj to Hilsa on the Tibet border. From there Purang is half an hour by road, and the lake is two hours further.
There is no parikrama and no trekking in this programme. You spend three nights at Purang, including a full acclimatisation day, and make a day visit to Lake Mansarovar for the holy dip where permitted, puja with a priest, and darshan of the north face of Kailash from Yam Dwar. It suits elderly parents, families with limited leave and anyone whose doctor has advised against walking at 5,000 m but who still longs for darshan.
Because the group is small, we move in 4-wheel-drive vehicles carrying four or five people each rather than in a coach. A yatra manager accompanies you from Lucknow, a Tibetan guide joins at the border, and all meals are pure vegetarian. Visa, permits and helicopter charter are handled by us; you only need to bring your passport, your medical certificate and your faith.
Route
Lucknow → Nepalgunj → Hilsa (chartered helicopter) → Purang (Taklakot) → Lake Mansarovar → Yam Dwar → Purang → Hilsa → Nepalgunj → Lucknow
Good to know before you book
- Chartered helicopters in Humla fly only in clear weather. Mornings are usually best; afternoons can bring cloud. One spare day at home after the return date is strongly advised.
- Even without trekking, Purang is at about 3,900 m and the lake at about 4,590 m. The acclimatisation day is not optional and the medical certificate is compulsory.
- Indian citizens need a Chinese group visa and Tibet permit; the passport must be valid for six months beyond return and reaches us about a month before departure.
- Following the Ministry of External Affairs advisory of June 2026, no yatri leaves Lucknow with us until the visa and permits are physically issued.
- Mansarovar bathing rules are set by the local authorities and can change without notice; collecting water and puja on the shore are always possible.
- Pricing is on request because helicopter charter cost depends on group size and the 2027 rate card; we quote per person once we know your numbers.
