Highlights & Route

Not every yatra to Nepal has to move at a pilgrim’s pace. This eight-day route is written for college groups, young couples and families with teenagers who want the temples of the Kathmandu valley but also want a story to tell when they get home. The centrepiece is the bungee jump over the Bhote Koshi river near the Tibet border, where a suspension bridge about 160 m above the water is one of the highest jump platforms in the world. Around it we have arranged hill towns, a long lakeside stay and the big three shrines of the capital.

The first days climb out of Kathmandu to Nagarkot for a Himalayan sunset, then follow the Arniko Highway up the Bhote Koshi valley to the jump site. From there the road drops back to Dhulikhel, a Newari market town with brick lanes, pagoda temples and, on a clear morning, a long line of snow peaks across the horizon. A full day in Kathmandu follows: Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath and Patan Durbar Square. The second half of the yatra belongs to Pokhara, with its caves, gorge, waterfall and the Fewa Lake boat ride, and optional paragliding or the zip line from Sarangkot.

Everyone in the group can choose their own level of thrill. The bungee, zip line and paragliding are optional and are booked and paid on the spot, so a parent or grandparent travelling with a younger crowd can enjoy the hotels, temples and views without being pushed off a bridge. Indian citizens need no visa for Nepal, which keeps the planning simple.

Kathmandu → Nagarkot → Bhote Koshi / Bahrabise (bungee) → Dhulikhel → Kathmandu → Pokhara (drive or fly) → Pokhara → Kathmandu → departure

Good to know before you book

The bungee operator sets its own age, weight and health conditions and requires a signed waiver; people with heart conditions, high blood pressure, recent surgery or who are pregnant are not allowed to jump. Jump charges are paid directly to the operator.
Indian citizens need no visa; adults carry a passport or Voter ID, and children under 15 may use Aadhaar with a photo ID.
The Bhote Koshi valley road (Arniko Highway) is narrow and prone to landslides in the monsoon; jumps may be rescheduled for weather or river conditions.
October-November and March-April are the best months for clear skies and comfortable temperatures; the jump site operates most of the year but closes during heavy rain.
Paragliding and the zip line in Pokhara are weather-dependent and are not refundable through us; book them in the morning once the sky is checked.
Entry tickets at heritage sites are extra; SAARC nationals pay reduced rates.

Day 1 :

Arrive Kathmandu, drive to Nagarkot

Meet at Tribhuvan International Airport, your arrival point (airport, railway station or hotel) at the agreed time, and drive straight out of the valley to Nagarkot, about 32 km east and 2,100 m up on the rim. The road passes through Bhaktapur's outskirts and climbs through pine and terraced fields. Check in and, if the weather is clear, walk to the viewpoint for sunset over a long sweep of peaks from Langtang to Everest, which shows as a small point on the far eastern horizon. Dinner at the hotel with a briefing on the week.

Day 2 :

Bhote Koshi gorge and bungee jump

Sunrise from the hotel, then a drive down to the Arniko Highway and up the Bhote Koshi valley towards the Tibet border, around three to four hours in all with the hill sections. The jump site is a steel suspension bridge strung across the gorge about 160 m above the river. After registration, weighing and a safety briefing, jumpers go one by one; those who prefer can try the canyon swing from the same bridge or simply watch from the bridge. Lunch is available at the resort. Check in at the night halt in the Bahrabise area, a quiet riverside stop with the sound of the water all night.

Day 3 :

Dhulikhel old town

Drive back down the valley to Dhulikhel, about two hours, and check in. The afternoon is for the old town: brick houses with carved windows, the Narayan and Harisiddhi temples, and the Bhagwati temple above the bazaar. A short walk (about 45 minutes) leads up to the Kali temple hill, the best viewpoint for the next morning's sunrise. Those who want a longer leg-stretch can take the trail towards Namobuddha, a hilltop Buddhist shrine, and return by vehicle.

Day 4 :

Kathmandu valley heritage

Early sunrise from Dhulikhel, breakfast, then an hour's drive into Kathmandu. The day covers Pashupatinath, where Indian yatris enter the main temple free on showing ID and can walk the ghats along the Bagmati; Boudhanath, the great stupa with its ring of monasteries and cafes; Swayambhunath on its hill in the west with the whole city below; and Patan Durbar Square with the Krishna Mandir and the Patan Museum. Check in at a Thamel hotel and the evening is free for the lanes and live-music cafes.

Day 5 :

To Pokhara

Drive west on the Prithvi Highway along the Trishuli river, about 200 km and six to seven hours, with a stop for lunch. Groups short on time can take the 25-minute flight instead (extra). Reach Pokhara's Lakeside by late afternoon. Those keen on the zip line from Sarangkot or a paragliding tandem flight can book for the next morning through the hotel. Evening walk along Fewa Lake.

Day 6 :

Pokhara: caves, falls and the lake

Optional early paragliding or zip line, weather permitting. After breakfast visit Devi's Fall and Gupteshwor Mahadev cave across the road, the Seti river gorge where the river runs in a slot barely a few metres wide, the International Mountain Museum with its displays on Everest expeditions and Himalayan people, and the Tibetan settlement. In the late afternoon take a boat on Fewa Lake to the Tal Barahi island temple and, for the energetic, climb to the World Peace Pagoda on the ridge opposite for sunset over the lake and Machhapuchhre.

Day 7 :

Return to Kathmandu

Free morning in Pokhara, then the drive back along the Trishuli to Kathmandu, arriving by evening. The last night is in Thamel with a farewell dinner. Shopping for trekking gear, pashmina and singing bowls is best done here.

How high is the bungee and is it safe?

The platform is a purpose-built suspension bridge roughly 160 m above the Bhote Koshi river, making it one of the highest commercial jumps in the world. The site is run by an established operator with trained jump masters and equipment inspected daily. Every jumper is weighed, briefed and signs a waiver. We coordinate the booking but the jump itself is a contract between you and the operator.

Does everyone have to jump?

No. The bungee, canyon swing, zip line and paragliding are all optional and paid on the spot. Non-jumpers enjoy the bridge, the river and the resort, and the rest of the itinerary is a regular sightseeing tour.

What are the age limits?

Operators generally require jumpers to be adults; under-18s may be accepted only with a parent’s signed consent, and the operator’s decision is final. Weight limits also apply. Check with us before booking if anyone in your group is a minor.

Do Indians need a visa?

No. Carry an original passport or Voter ID; airlines will not accept Aadhaar, PAN or a driving licence for adults aged 15 to 65. Under-15s may travel on Aadhaar with another photo ID.

What is the best season?

October-November for the clearest mountain views and stable weather, and March-April for warmth and rhododendrons. The monsoon (June to September) brings landslide risk on the Bhote Koshi road and frequent cancellation of paragliding.

Is rafting included?

Not in this itinerary. A half-day raft on the Bhote Koshi or the Trishuli can be added on Day 2 or Day 5 at extra cost if the group wants it; tell us when you enquire.

Can parents or grandparents join this yatra?

Yes. Apart from the optional activities, the route is a comfortable sightseeing tour with good hotels. We often have mixed groups where the younger members jump and the elders enjoy the viewpoints and temples.

Is Pashupatinath darshan included in this adventure package?

Yes. Day 4 is the Kathmandu valley heritage day, starting at Pashupatinath, where Indian yatris enter the main temple free on showing ID and can walk the ghats along the Bagmati. The day then covers Boudhanath, Swayambhunath and Patan Durbar Square. Day 6 in Pokhara also includes Gupteshwor Mahadev cave and the Tal Barahi island temple on Fewa Lake.
