Highlights & Route
Many families carry a quiet duty: to offer Pind Daan for their departed elders at Gaya, the place the scriptures name above all others for the peace of ancestors. This five-day yatra combines that duty with the joy of Kashi. You begin in Varanasi with the Ganga aarti, darshan at Kashi Vishwanath and the Vishalakshi Shakti Peeth, and the old-city temples of Annapurna, Kala Bhairava and Sankat Mochan. You then travel to Gaya, perform the rituals at the Vishnupad temple and the Phalgu river with a local pandit we arrange, and spend the next morning in the serenity of Bodh Gaya before returning to Varanasi.
We know that Pind Daan can feel daunting for families doing it for the first time. Our coordinator explains the sequence in advance, arranges a reliable pandit, keeps the samagri list simple and makes sure you have time to rest afterwards. The rituals themselves are performed by the pandit and paid directly to him; our role is to make the journey smooth and the day unhurried.
Bodh Gaya, just 13 km from Gaya, offers a gentle contrast: the Mahabodhi temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment, the Great Buddha statue and the monasteries built by Thailand, Japan and other countries. You travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle, stay in standard hotels with vegetarian breakfast and dinner, and have our Dehradun team on call from the first pickup to the final drop.
Route
Varanasi (Ganga aarti) → Kashi Vishwanath, Vishalakshi Shakti Peeth, Annapurna, Kala Bhairava, Sankat Mochan, Tulsi Manas → Gaya (Vishnupad temple, Pind Daan on the Phalgu) → Bodh Gaya (Mahabodhi temple, Bodhi tree, Great Buddha, monasteries) → Varanasi (departure)
Good to know before you book
- Varanasi to Gaya is roughly 250 km and 6 hours by road via Mohania and Sasaram on the Grand Trunk Road; we leave after breakfast to reach by mid-afternoon.
- Pind Daan can be performed throughout the year, but the Pitru Paksha fortnight (September–October) is the most favoured and most crowded time; the Gaya administration runs a mela with heavy security then, and hotels must be booked months ahead.
- The Phalgu is often dry on the surface; water is drawn from the sand or from the Sita Kund side, and the pandit will guide you.
- Kashi Vishwanath opens at about 2:30 am and closes around 11 pm; phones, bags and leather are not allowed inside the corridor and lockers are available.
- Phones are restricted inside the Mahabodhi temple and cameras need a paid permit; the temple is open from early morning to evening with a break at midday.
- October to March is the most comfortable season; April to June is very hot in both cities.
