Prayagraj Mandir Darshan

1 Day

Highlights & Route

Prayagraj is called Tirtharaj, the king of pilgrimage places, because the Ganga and the Yamuna meet here at the Triveni Sangam. A bath at the confluence, a visit to the Hanuman who lies rather than stands, darshan at a Shakti Peeth without an idol and a glimpse of the undying banyan inside Akbar’s fort together make up the traditional Prayagraj darshan. This one-day visit covers all of it with a private vehicle and a coordinator who knows the lanes, the timings and the queues.

We start at the Sangam early, when the water is calm and the boats are easy to get. After the snan and any tarpan or puja you wish to perform, we walk to the Bade Hanuman Mandir and the fort corridor for the Akshayvat. The afternoon is for the Alopi Devi and Mankameshwar temples on the Yamuna side, with a lunch break in between at a vegetarian place of your choice.

The pace is set for families and elderly yatris: short distances, flat walking and a vehicle waiting close to each stop. The yatra works equally well as a stand-alone day if you are passing through Prayagraj by train, or as one day inside a longer Kashi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya yatra that we can plan for you.

Route

Prayagraj Junction / airport / hotel → Triveni Sangam (boat, snan and tarpan) → Bade Hanuman Mandir → Akshayvat and Patalpuri corridor in the fort → lunch break → Alopi Devi Mandir → Mankameshwar Mandir and Saraswati Ghat → drop

Good to know before you book

  • Sangam boat fares are paid directly to the boatman and vary with season and boat size; our coordinator helps you settle the fare before you board.
  • The Akshayvat corridor inside the fort is controlled by the army. It is normally open to pilgrims through a marked path, but can be closed on security grounds without notice.
  • In the monsoon the Bade Hanuman idol, which lies below ground level, is often covered by river water; this is considered auspicious locally, but you will see the shrine from outside.
  • Magh Mela (January to February) and Kumbh years bring enormous crowds and traffic diversions around the Sangam; the walk from the vehicle becomes longer on bathing days.
  • Phones and cameras are generally allowed in Prayagraj temples, but follow the signboards; photography inside sanctums is not permitted.

Yatra Highlights

  • Holy dip at the Triveni Sangam reached by boat, with tarpan or puja if you wish
  • Darshan of the reclining Bade Hanuman and the Akshayvat inside Allahabad Fort
  • Alopi Devi Shakti Peeth and Mankameshwar Mahadev on the Yamuna bank
