Highlights & Route

Prayagraj, the old Allahabad, is the Tirtharaj, the king of pilgrimage places, because three rivers meet here: the Ganga, the Yamuna and the unseen Saraswati. A dip at the Sangam is the heart of any visit, and this short yatra puts it first. Around it you see the Lete Hanuman temple that lies within the fort walls, the Akshayavat banyan, and the Lalita Devi temple at Meerapur, counted among the Shakti Peethas.

The second day takes you about 55 km west to Kaushambi, one of the great cities of ancient India and the capital of the Vatsa kingdom. The Buddha visited several times, and the ruins of the Ghositaram monastery, gifted to him by the merchant Ghosita, still stand beside the mud ramparts of the old city on the Yamuna. A little further is Prabhosa, a Jain pilgrimage hill with ancient caves and inscriptions, and on the Ganga side is Kara, where the Sheetla Devi temple draws devotees from across the region. The day mixes faith with history in a way that few short tours do.

We keep the Sangam visit for early morning, when the boats are fewer and the light is soft, and leave the afternoons for the fort area, Anand Bhawan and Khusro Bagh at an easy pace. The yatra works well for families with elderly members and for school groups, and can be joined to our Kashi or Ayodhya programmes.

Route

Prayagraj (2 nights) with a day excursion to Kaushambi, Prabhosa and Kara → drop at Prayagraj airport or railway station

Good to know before you book

  • Boats to the Sangam point leave from the ghats below the fort; rates are fixed by the administration during melas and negotiable otherwise. Our team helps you hire a licensed boat.
  • During Magh Mela (January to February each year) and the Kumbh and Ardh Kumbh years, the Sangam area becomes a tent city with heavy traffic controls. Plans and timings change daily, so tell us well ahead if you want to come during the mela.
  • Most of the Allahabad Fort is under the Army; visitors are allowed only to the Patalpuri temple and Akshayavat section through a designated gate.
  • Kaushambi and Prabhosa are rural sites with no restaurants; we carry packed snacks and water, and lunch is taken on return to Prayagraj.
  • Prayagraj airport (Bamrauli) has limited flights; Prayagraj Junction is well connected by train to Delhi, Varanasi and Lucknow.

Yatra Highlights

  • Holy dip and puja at Triveni Sangam by boat at sunrise
  • Lalita Devi Shakti Peeth, Lete Hanuman and Akshayavat inside the fort
  • Ghositaram monastery ruins at Kaushambi, Prabhosa Jain hill and Sheetla Devi at Kara
