Highlights & Route
Not every Bali visit needs to be a temple circuit. This programme is for families who want the island’s rivers, forests and cliffs as much as its shrines, and it mixes the two gently: a morning at the holy springs of Tirta Empul and the Elephant Cave sits alongside a swim at Tegenungan waterfall and a walk among the long-tailed macaques of the Ubud Monkey Forest. The first half is based in Ubud, the second on the coast, with a full day across the strait on Nusa Penida.
Nusa Penida is the rugged island visible from Sanur beach, about 45 minutes away by fast boat. Its east and west coasts are a line of limestone cliffs with small beaches far below: Kelingking, shaped like a sleeping dinosaur when seen from the headland, and Diamond and Atuh beaches on the eastern tip, reached by steps cut into the cliff. The island has few hotels and bumpy roads, so we do it as a day visit with a local driver and return to Bali in the evening.
The itinerary is designed to be comfortable for mixed-age groups. Walks are short and optional, there is time by the pool each afternoon, and dinner is left open so you can eat as you like. The pace is deliberately slower than a sightseeing tour: two or three places a day, seen properly, with a private vehicle and English-speaking driver throughout. If you want a free day at the end for shopping or the beach, tell us and we will shuffle the order.

Good to know before you book
- Indian passport holders can take Indonesia’s Visa on Arrival (IDR 500,000 per person, about USD 30, 30-day stay, extendable once). It can be bought at Bali airport or applied for in advance as an e-VoA at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
- Every arriving passenger must submit the free All Indonesia arrival card at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id within 72 hours before landing. Bali also charges a one-time tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person (lovebali.baliprov.go.id), which can be paid online before you fly.
- The Nusa Penida day involves a fast-boat crossing of about 45 minutes each way, which can be choppy, and roads on the island are narrow and rough. Those with back problems or who get seasick should decide on the day; the cliff viewpoints are seen without descending the steps.
- The Kelingking stairway to the beach below is steep and unsafe for most visitors; we view it from the headland. Diamond and Atuh beaches have proper steps but a long climb back.
- Tirta Empul and Goa Gajah are active temples: sarongs are required and are available at the gate. Tegenungan has about 150 steps down to the pool and strong currents after rain.
- International flights are not included. Bali’s dry season (roughly April to October) gives the calmest seas for the Nusa Penida crossing.
