FAQs

Char Dham and Kedarnath

Is registration compulsory for the Char Dham Yatra?

Yes. Every yatri must register with the Uttarakhand government before travelling to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath or Badrinath. Registration is done on the official portal, registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in, or through the government’s Tourist Care Uttarakhand app. Your registration is checked along the route, so keep it handy on your phone or printed. We help each of our yatris complete it.

What details do I need for registration?

You will need a valid photo ID for each yatri, a working mobile number and your planned dates. In recent seasons, Aadhaar-based verification has been used. The rules can change each season, so please check with us before you register.

How do I book a helicopter to Kedarnath?

Kedarnath helicopter tickets are sold only on the official IRCTC HeliYatra website, heliyatra.irctc.co.in. You must complete your Char Dham registration first, and the name and ID on the ticket must match the yatri. Please be careful of fake websites and social media pages selling helicopter tickets. We can guide you, but no one can guarantee a seat, as tickets are limited.

When does the Char Dham Yatra season open and close?

The temples usually open between late April and May and close around October and November, close to Diwali and Bhai Dooj. Exact dates are announced by the temple committees each year. The dates for the 2027 season will be shared once they are officially declared.

What is the best time to go?

May to June and September to October are generally the most comfortable months. July and August bring heavy monsoon rain and a higher risk of landslides, so travel then needs extra care and flexible plans.

How difficult is the Kedarnath trek?

The walk from Gaurikund to Kedarnath is a long uphill trek on a paved path. Many yatris walk it, while others use a pony, palki or helicopter. We suggest light walking practice for a few weeks before the yatra, and we will help you choose what suits each member of your family.

Senior citizens and health

Can senior citizens do the Char Dham Yatra?

Yes, many elderly yatris complete the Char Dham Yatra every year. We plan shorter driving days, comfortable halts and pony, palki or helicopter options where they exist. Please consult your doctor before travel, and share any health conditions with us so we can plan carefully.

Do I need a medical certificate?

It depends on the yatra. Adi Kailash and Kailash Mansarovar require medical fitness documents, and health checks may be carried out on the Char Dham routes. We will tell you exactly what is required for your yatra at the time of booking.

What about altitude sickness?

Several of our yatras go above 3,000 metres. Drinking enough water, avoiding rushing, resting well and not skipping acclimatisation days all help. If you feel unwell, tell our team at once. People with heart, lung or blood pressure problems should take medical advice before booking.

Adi Kailash and Om Parvat

Do I need a permit for Adi Kailash and Om Parvat?

Yes. An Inner Line Permit is needed as the route is close to the border. It is issued by the SDM office at Dharchula in Pithoragarh district. You will usually need a photo ID, passport-size photos, a medical certificate and a police verification certificate. We help arrange the permit as part of our yatra.

Can NRIs or foreign nationals go to Adi Kailash?

Permits for this area are generally issued to Indian citizens only. Rules can change, so please check with us before planning.

Kailash Mansarovar

What documents are needed for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra?

Kailash Mansarovar is in Tibet, China, so you will need a valid Indian passport and the Chinese visa and permits required for the yatra. The Ministry of External Affairs has advised pilgrims not to leave India until all travel documents are confirmed. We will tell you the documents and timelines for the coming season.

How is a private Kailash yatra different from the government one?

The Ministry of External Affairs organises its own Kailash Mansarovar Yatra each year through a computerised draw. Private yatras run separately through registered tour operators, usually via Nepal. Rules change every year, so we confirm the current process with each enquiry.

Booking and payment

How do I book a yatra with you?

Call us at our office phone, send a WhatsApp message to WhatsApp or fill the call-back form. We will discuss your group and dates, then share a written plan with the price. Your booking is confirmed once you pay the advance and we confirm it in writing.

Can I pay online?

Yes. Where a package page shows the “Book & pay advance” button, you can pay the 30% advance securely through Razorpay by UPI, card or netbanking, with no extra fee. You can also send a booking request online without paying, and pay later by bank transfer or UPI to our official business account, which we share with you in writing. Please do not pay into any other account.

What is included in the package price?

Each package lists clearly what is included and what is not, such as hotels, meals, vehicle, and registration help. Helicopter tickets, ponies and palkis are usually paid separately. Please see the trip page or ask us for the details of your yatra.

What happens if a landslide or bad weather stops the yatra?

Your safety comes first. We will change the plan, wait for the road to open or suggest another route. Our Cancellation & Refund Policy explains how extra costs and refunds are handled in such cases.

Do you plan custom or family yatras?

Yes. Tell us the temples you wish to visit, your dates and the ages of your group, and we will suggest a plan that suits you.
